For many years, the Volkswagen Beetle was the car in which it all began. Countless young people learned to drive in it, countless people drove it as the first car in their lives. Over the years, improvements were made to the vehicle to keep the Beetle competitive. Even in 1968, the Beetle had a standard that kept it competitive against its competitors. The former 1131 cc engine had become a 1500 cc engine with 44 hp. Disc brakes at the front and a new semi-trailing arm rear axle kept this temperament under control.
